New Product: Canon MFP MICR Printer

Canon MF4370DN MICR MFP

New Product: The Canon ImageClass MF4370dn multi-function printer with a MICR Toner cartridge. Traditionally we’ve only sold HP printers, but we felt the Canon was a better printer on several fronts. Primarily Canon has better drivers that work better and don’t require as many resources. Canon actually manufactures HP LaserJet printers, so the quality is the same with either HP or Canon. Also Canon delivers more bank for the buck. The MF4370dn includes print (23ppm), network connectivity, fax, scan, copy and duplex capabilities in one tidy package.

The Canon MF4370dn uses the Canon 104 MICR cartridge which is almost identical the the HP Q2612A cartridges used in the HP LaserJet 1012 printer. Canon has installed a tab that prevents 104 from being used in an HP printer and vice/versa. We also plan to offer a remanufactured Canon 104 MICR toner cartridge as well as a standard 104 remanufactured cartridge.

We should have the Canon MF4370dn MICR MFP printer in stock in early August 2010 at the latest.

New Products: MICR Toner for Lexmark E260, E360 & E460

Friday, July 16th, 2010 | MICR Toner and Check Printing | 1 Comment

Lexmark E260, E360, E460 MICR Toner

The Lexmark T650 MICR toner has been such a success, we’ve decided to go deeper into the Lexmark lineup with our MICR Toner. We’ve just started developing a MICR toner cartridge for the Lexmark E260, E360 and E460 series. To start with we will produce the 3,500 page yield E260A11A MICR cartridge as it is compatible with all three series printers. Lemark makes a 9,000 page yield cartridge (E360H11A), but it is not compatible with the E260 series, so we’ll stick with the cartridge that works with them all.

The E260A11a is compatible with the following Lexmark printers: E260D, E260DN, E360D, E360DN, E460DN, E460DW, E462DTN

Expected release date is early August 2010.

Dell 5230 / 5350 MICR Toner in R&D

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010 | MICR Toner and Check Printing | 3 Comments

We’ve just started working on a Dell 5350 / Dell 5230 MICR toner cartridge. We hoping to offer a high yield cartridge with a 21,000 page yield. This will be a new MICR cartridge, not remanufactured. The Dell cartridge is very similar to our Lexmark T650 MICR toner cartridge, the main difference being the chip which does not allow cross use of consumables between Lexmark and Dell printers.

Dell offers 4 variations of cartridges for this printer, although two varieties are really the same thing with a “use and return” policy. When you buy a “use and return” cartridge you are agreeing that you will return the cartridge to Dell and not let the empty fall into the hands of someone whom “heaven forbid” might actually recycle or remanufacture the cartridge. And for this Dell allows you to save $120 on the high yield cartridge and $60 on the standard or low yield cartridge. Dell seems to have modeled this practice after the Lexmark “Prebate” cartridge in which Lexmark offers you a rebate in advance if you agree to return the cartridge to Lexmark. All of this is done to keep the empty cartridges from being remanufactured or recycled. If the cartridge is remanufactured then that’s revenue that Lexmark / Dell does not receive.

The “use and return” or “prebate” policy to me seem to add to confusion. My guess is most customers just bought the cheapest one and never really felt then entered into a contract buy buying the “prebate” cartridge, and therefore what they did with it had no bearing on the “contract” but rather what was convenient.

Dell 5350n / 5350dn / 5230n/ 5230dn Part Numbers

Yield Dell Part # Page Yield Dell Retail
Std Yield “use and return” 330-6989 7,000 $139.99
Std Yield 330-6990 7,000 $199.99
High Yield “use and return” 330-6968 21,000 $299.99
High Yield 330-6991 21,000 $419.99

MICR for HP CE278A and CE285A Pass QC – On Sale Now

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010 | MICR Toner and Check Printing | No Comments

QC  just cleared both the CE278A MICR toner cartridge for the LaserJet Pro P1606dn and the CE285A MICR toner cartridge for the HP LaserJet Pro P1102W. The MICR results are spectacular for both of these printers. We did find we had better results using a slightly bolder variation of the MICR font with the P1606dn as it produces lighter a lighter stroke.

MICR Toner for the P1600 Series including the HP P1606dn – CE278A

MICR Toner for the P1100 Series including the HP P1102w – CE285A

Here’s some screen shots from our MICRmate document analyzer on our P1606dn MICR Toner

P1602dn MICR Analysis

As you can see from the histogram the MICR cartridge is producing an even signal strength.

We use a MICRmate analyzer to make sure every batch of MICR toner we use meets ANSI and ABA standards. In addition, in production, we use a RDM Verifier to make sure that your cartridge  has MICR toner and meets our stringent standards.

New HP Printers P1102W and P1606dn – MICR in R&D

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 | MICR Toner and Check Printing | 1 Comment
P1102W MICR Laser Printer

HP LaserJet P1102W

HP just released two new printers. Both printers are in the low end of the market with the 18ppm P1102W with a street price of $150 and the 26ppm P1606dn coming in at $230 or so. The printers are in my book throwaways but for the price they are offering some options that used to be pricey. The W in P1102W is for wireless. And the DN in P1606DN is for Duplexing and Network. for so much documentation that is printed, duplexing is a great way to save paper. Also HP has departed from the vanilla printer to a new sleeker looking black printer.

The P1606dn uses a HP CE278A toner cartridge, rated for 2,100 pages. the HP P1102W uses a CE285A rated for 1,600 pages. While upfront cost is low, the cost per page on these models is relatively high. These are designed for home or small business use. These make great little check printers if your volume is low, as they’re inexpensive and take up little space.

Both printers are now in R&D for MICR toner applications, and we hope to have both the P1102W / CE285A MICR toner cartridge and the P1606DN / CE278A MICR toner cartridge available sometime in May.

New Product: HP LaserJet P2055d MICR Laser Printer for check printing

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 | MICR Toner and Check Printing | 4 Comments

HP P2055d MICR Laser Printer

Hot off the press, we’re now shipping the HP P2055d MICR laser printers. This is a great little printer, prints 35ppm with stunning quality. The “D” means it duplexes as well. Not that you would duplex checks, still the duplexer comes in handy and is a great way to save paper. This is a real laser printer with it’s own processor and memory, not like it’s little brother the LaserJet P2035 which is host based. The host based machines are not necessarily bad, but they rely on the processor in your computer to handle the graphics work. Also this printer has PCL5e and PCL6 so it can take jobs from non-Windows machines and older DOS programs with no problems. The P2055d comes with a real CE255A, not a starter cartridge. We’ve replaced the toner with MICR toner. You still get the same NEW cartridge that came with the printer, but with MICR Toner.

New Product P3015 MICR Toner CE255A CE255X

Friday, September 11th, 2009 | MICR Toner and Check Printing | 3 Comments

MICR Toner Cartridges for the HP LaserJet P3015, P3015d, P3015dn laser printers are here! We released the CE255A MICR and CE255X MICR toner cartridges on 9/1/09. So far we haven’t seen much action on this product as the supply of the P3015 is low. We were lucky to get an early release direct from HP. Once the supply opens up, we expect this to be a popular cartridge.

We also plan to sell a HP P3015 MICR Laser Printer once we can get our hands on a steady supply. This year, HP seems to have mis-timed the release of their new printers, as supply of the P4014n, P3005 were already exhausted before any replacement laser printers were available. We’ve been forced to find new suppliers to fulfill our orders for HP MICR Laser Printers.

We’re planning on releasing the Lexmark T650, T652, T654 MICR toner cartridge hopefully by October 1st.
